Located in Southern Maryland in Calvert County. A Boaters paradise right off the Chesapeake Bay and the Patuxent River. Solomon's Island at one and a half miles long is a little, quiet community in the winter, But in the summer it hosts boaters from all over. Once a quaint fishing, crabbing, oystering and boat building village it was discovered by the recreational boating crowd in the late 70's. Now there are things to do for everyone. From historic tours to elegant dining to some of the best fishing on the Bay to partying all night you will never be bored. There are 8 hotel/motels in the area, many bed and breakfasts, 9 marinas, boat repair facilities, Calvert Marine Museum and Drum Point Lighthouse, free public boat launch, personal watercraft and boat rentals, many nightclubs (don't miss out on the Tiki Bar and their famous Mai Tai's), and some fine restaurants like The Lighthouse Inn. To see an interactive map of the Solomon's Island area click click here. Hart Miller Island Located in the Chesapeake Bay just north of the North Patapsco River and just south of Middle River. It is a boaters haven and the most popular anchorage on the Bay. The island is a part of a state park and offers camping facilities and a ranger station with a 3 story observation tower and excellent rest room facilities. On summer weekends expect to find hundreds of boaters there just hanging out. It offers one of the most relaxing times that can be had on the Bay. From sunning on your boat to joining in a game of water football or walking along the 3000 foot beach you will never have a better day trip on the Bay. During the summer months there are at least 2 food boats that are anchored there on the weekend and they even provide delivery right to your boat. Baltimore Baltimore is one of the most popular areas in Maryland to visit by boat. Make plans for at least an entire day here. The Inner Harbor boasts a food pavilion with everything from tasty treats to a Hooter's and a Phillips's Crab House. Adjacent to the food pavilion is a shopping pavilion filled with gift shops and exclusive shops. The pavilions have over 135 eateries, markets and specialty shops. The Maryland Science Center with an IMAX theater and the famous Baltimore Aquarium are right there as well as the Hard Rock Cafe and the first ESPN Zone sports bar. Within a short walk are the Baltimore Convention Center, Oriole Park at Camden Yards and the Baltimore Ravens stadium. Don't forget to take a water taxi around to the many interesting places on the harbor or take a harbor cruise or go to the top of the World Trade Center and sneak a peek at the spectacular views from one of their many telescopes.

Located about 5 minutes east of The Inner Harbor. Fun, feisty and independent, The Fells Point area has stayed true to its historic maritime roots for over 250 years. Today it is a waterfront community, full of colorful people and historic buildings with a unique character that retains a deep sense of its rich and historic past. It has a unique collection of 18th and 19th century homes and buildings, Baltimore's oldest public market, and an variety of saloons and nightclubs (over 35 of them!), shopping for everything and anything, restaurants, narrow brick streets, historic inns, and coffee houses. A visit to the Inner Harbor area isn't complete without a stop at Fells Point. Deep Creek Lake Located about 4 hours to the west of Baltimore, MD is Deep Creek Lake, In the mountains of Western Maryland. It offers recreation and relaxation throughout the year. Whether you prefer excitement and thrilling activities or just the enjoyment of the abundant natural beauty of the area, you will find it in Garrett County. The summer months are filled with boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming. With over 65 miles of shoreline it is Maryland's largest freshwater lake. White water rafting, canoeing, and kayaking are available on nearby rivers. If hiking and picnicking are your choice, you can choose from five state parks including Swallow Falls State Park with its nature trails and Muddy Creek Falls which is Maryland's largest waterfall. Other activities to keep you entertained include hunting, horseback riding, miniature golf, two 18 hole championship golf courses and numerous fine gift shops and restaurants. Ocean City It has long been called "The East Coast's Number One Family Resort." With it's miles of white sandy beaches to the sparkling ocean, and it's famous boardwalk, Ocean City is truly a great vacation spot for the whole family. Huge resort hotels to romantic bed and breakfasts, there is hundreds of places to stay for all budgets. The Roland E. Powell Convention Center now boasts 182,200 s.f. of state of the art convention space and offers some of the best car and boat shows in the area. You will never be bored in Ocean City, with lots to do you will probably run out of time before you get to do all Ocean City has to offer. From amusement parks, water parks, miniature golf, water sports, sailing, shopping, nightclubs you name it Ocean City has it. Of course, the most visited spot in Ocean City has to be it's famous Boardwalk. With miles of food and shops and even amusement rides and games of chance the boardwalk can keep you busy for hours and hours. If you get tired of walking just flag down the tram and sit back and enjoy the ride while getting great views of the beach and ocean. If you like golf there are courses nearby to challenge some of the best golfers. Fishing is another of Ocean City's best things to do. Whether it's from the famous fishing pier or chartering a professional boat you will have a great catch here. Of course, the summer months are usually booked up early so plan ahead. Assateague Island Just a quick drive from Ocean City lies beautiful Assateague Island, a natural barrier island with beautiful marshlands, miles of pristine beaches and plenty of sparkling water for endless sporting activities. The island is home to Assateague Island National Seashore Park and Visitor's Center, and Assateague State Park. If you are a camper, the island is perfect for camping, hiking, biking, surf fishing, clamming, crabbing, canoeing and kayaking. You can explore the island on the off road beach trail with you 4X4, for registered users only, or peddle yourself around the island on the paved bicycle nature paths. Assateague Island is also home to wild horses and ponies. The wild horses and ponies are often seen along the roadside, in the campgrounds, and along the beach and bay side. Also, if the horses or ponies are feeling hot and itchy, you'll see them cooling off in the ocean or in the bay. Park rangers remind visitors to be extremely cautious of the wild horses and ponies, although they seem friendly, it can be very dangerous if you try to feed or pet them. Please, remember these are wild animals. The Severn River It isn't called The Scenic Severn River for nothing. Located just north of Annapolis The Severn River is one of the most beautiful rivers off the Bay. Of course lots of people know this and the river does tend to get crowded. Some of the most exquisite waterfront homes can be viewed from the river. A short cruise about halfway into the river reveals a little island retreat perfect for hanging out and enjoying the day. A little further inland and through the channel you will find a nice little ski area complete with a tiny little island in the middle where you can pull up and tie off for a nice little land rest or picnic. Furnace & Marley Creek We weren't going to list our favorite haven in the guide but we felt that it wouldn't be fair to keep this area to ourselves so we are going to let you all in on a little secret. These two creeks are our favorite destination. Just inside the Key Bridge on The Patapsco River and through Curtis Bay and Curtis Creek, past the Coast Guard Yard you will find our little secret hideaway. These creeks have lots to offer for all boaters, especially families looking to get away to a quiet area. Plenty of sheltered coves to anchor, a sand bar that is always crowded on the weekend, a couple of quaint bars with great food and not a lot of boat traffic. This is one of the best areas for water sports off the Bay. If you choose to visit this area you won't be disappointed, just don't tell everyone. Worton & Fairlee Creek Located on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Kent county. Just a few minutes from the open water of the upper Bay region is the beautiful Worton Creek area which is home to several fine marinas, some nice sandy beaches and private, secure anchorage's. Just south of Worton is Fairlee Creek, a quiet and scenic area. A full service marina/resort is located here and you can have one heck of a time there. The sandbar to the west of the creeks entrance is privately owned. Further to the south is Tolchester. For over 75 years steamboats brought many here to enjoy the rides, the food, and the entertainment. A full service marina is located on the old grounds of the Tolchester Amusement Park. Be prepared to spend some time in this area as it has lots to offer for families, transients and partiers alike. Rock Hall Also On The Eastern Shore in Kent County is Historic Rock Hall. With its fine marinas and restaurants, it is a favorite destination of many. The well protected harbor is home to work and pleasure boaters. The Rock Hall Museum has exhibits of local artifacts. The Watermens Museum showcases a heritage still alive today as modern fishermen catch the Bay's bounty of crabs, fish and oysters. Just past Rock Hall Harbor lies The Haven on Swan Creek, with several excellent marinas and a beautiful and secure anchorage. Overlooking Rock Hall Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay is Waterman's Crab House Restaurant and Dock Bar, A must stop on a trip to Rock Hall. From all you can eat crabs to some great steaks and everything in between the food as spectacular as the view. They offer 25 slips for mooring while dining and on weekends they have live entertainment. A very fun and interesting place to visit for all. The Bay Cafe As you enter the Inner Harbor just past Fort McHenry on the right at 2809 Boston Street is The Bay Cafe. Well known for its great food and fun atmosphere. It's restaurant serves great food indoors and outdoors with a wonderful view of the mouth of the harbor and the North Patapsco River. Outside you will find a Cabana bar and a patio also with great views. The party never stops at The Bay Cafe, especially on Sunday's with their famous "Jamaica Me Crazy" party. The cafe offers 12 floating slips to boaters and it is also served by the local water taxi's. Havre De Grace Located in Harford county on the Susquehanna River is Havre De Grace. The Concord Point Lighthouse which served as a navigation aid for over 155 years, which was decommissioned in 1975, is now a registered historic landmark and it continues to aid boaters rounding the point. Stretching a half mile from the lighthouse to the Yacht Basing is the Promenade Boardwalk. The boardwalk passes several notable attractions including the new Maritime Museum, the old Bayou Hotel and the Decoy Museum. Nearby is a park which boasts children's playground, BBQ's, tennis courts and picnic tables. The park is host to several events like the Decoy Festival in May, The Maritime Festival in June, 4th of July festivities and an Art Show in August. Havre De Grace also offers many restaurants and some great entertainment. Don't miss out on The Tidewater Grill or MacGregor's which is known for its weekend musical entertainment and it's fun atmosphere. Besides the local marinas there are also some good anchorages in the area. Just be careful navigating near Garrett Island which cuts the Susquehanna in half and stay clear of the "Flats" which shouldn't be a problem with a 200 ft. wide channel. While in the area it is a good idea to visit Perryville across the river or Port Deposit just up river. Kent Island Narrows One of the busiest boating centers in the middle bay area, the Kent Island area boasts something to do for everyone. The narrows offers the quickest route between Eastern and Prospect Bays and the Chester River, although there is a speed limit of 6 knots. Along the way do not miss out on Red Eye's Dock Bar, under the palm tress on the water, especially Sunday's for the Bikini contest. Weekends they also have live entertainment. There are numerous marinas in this area that range from small to the elaborate. There are lots of shops, including an outlet center and you will find some of Maryland's best restaurants. Bodkin Creek This area of the Patapsco River is just about an all day adventure. It offers lots of nice slow cruising and exploration. Upon entering the creek take caution as the Bodkin Shoal has caused many boats to run aground. The shoal extends a considerable distance out towards the main channel. Once in the creek depths average 8 to 10 feet. The creeks off the Bodkin offer some fine slow cruising and some nice scenery. The waters edge is crowded with homes and piers and my arm got tired waving at all the friendly people. Old Bee Point, Hickory Point and Jubb Cove are some good anchorages. Their is also a very nice full service marina for all your boating needs. Magothy River The Magothy ofers all kinds of boaters many interetsing things to keep you busy for an entire day of exploring, relaxing or whatever floats your boat. Upon entering the channel into the Magothy take heed as the 6 knot speed is highly enforced. Once through the channel your free to speed back up to crusing speed. This river offers many creeks and coves to explore. Dobbins Island is the best anchorage in the area. It offers calm semi protected waters for anchoring. Going ashore on the Island is done all the time but this is private land so be forewarned. Gibson Island is to starboard as you enter the channel and this private islands coastline is dotted with some beautiful homes. Gray's, Broad and Dividing Creeks offer some fine cruising. Check your charts carefully, and your depth finder as shoals are abundant in certain areas of the Magothy. St. Michaels One of the most popular destinations of the Bay, the town of St. Michaels in Talbot County Maryland. With a nice mix of history, retail shops, restaurants, lodging, and small town charm. St. Michaels main attraction is the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. This museum includes an indoor & outdoor collection of items related to commerce & trade, navigation, fisheries, and waterfowling. The museum spreads outdoors to include several historic buildings, including the Hopper Straight Lighthouse and a cannery warehouse, plus a collection of 85 vessels. This collection of sail, power, and row boats is the most important and largest collection of its kind in the world. For the serious sportsman, excellant fishing and guided hunting make St. Michaels a year-round getaway. Bicycling enthusiasts find St. Michaels a must-stop on their itinerary. Golfers will find several superb courses nearby. There's lots to do in St. Michaels. North Beach Discover North Beach, a quiet waterfront community located just 35 miles south of Washington D.C. and Annapolis, MD. Come stroll the boardwalk, go swimming at the beach or catch a rockfish off the 550 ft pier. Explore fossils from millions of years ago along the waters edge. Enjoy fine dining and entertainment, antiques, unique shops, and charming bed & breakfasts to rustic, family owned lodgings located throughout the town.
